Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between polarised and tinted lenses?
A sunglass tint reduces overall brightness and blocks UV rays. Polarised lenses do the same but additionally eliminate reflected horizontal glare from flat surfaces — water, roads and snow. A standard tint reduces glare partially; polarised eliminates it. For driving, water sports and high-glare environments, polarised is the superior choice.
Are polarised lenses suitable for driving?
Yes — polarised lenses are highly recommended for driving. They eliminate glare from wet road surfaces, oncoming headlights and other vehicles significantly more effectively than a standard tint. One caveat: some drivers find polarised lenses affect the readability of certain LCD screens such as sat-nav displays or digital instrument panels. If this concerns you, a standard tinted lens is a safe alternative.
Can I get prescription polarised glasses?
Yes. Polarised lenses are available as a prescription lens across all lens types — single vision, varifocal, bifocal — and all four indexes. Choose your frame, select your lens type and index, and add polarised at the coatings step during checkout.Do polarised lenses block UV rays?
Yes. All our polarised lenses provide 100% UV-A and UV-B protection. UV protection is separate from the polarising filter — both are present in every polarised lens we supply regardless of the tint shade or density chosen. Can I get non-prescription polarised sunglasses?
Yes. Polarised lenses are available on non-prescription lenses — no optical prescription is required. Select non-prescription at the lens type step and choose polarised at the coatings step. Our team will glaze the lenses in-house at zero optical power with a polarising filter applied. What colours are polarised lenses available in?
Our polarised lenses are available in three colours — Grey, Green and Brown. Grey is the most neutral option and does not alter colour perception, making it the most popular choice for driving. Brown enhances contrast and depth perception, which is particularly effective for fishing and golf. Green maintains natural colour balance and is a popular choice for water sports and general outdoor use.Are polarised lenses legal for driving in the UK?
Yes. Our polarised lenses are suitable for daytime driving under UK law. Under UK regulations, Category 4 lenses — which transmit less than 8% of light — are illegal to drive in at any time. Our polarised lenses do not fall into this category. One thing to be aware of: some drivers find polarised lenses affect the readability of certain LCD displays such as sat-nav screens or digital instrument panels. We recommend testing your polarised lenses before driving to ensure they are comfortable with your specific vehicle.
