Lens coating

blue light blocking Lenses

A coating that filters a portion of blue light emitted by digital screens. Available as an optional upgrade on all lens types, all indexes — with or without a prescription.
How it works

What does a blue light blocking do?

Blue light is emitted by digital screens, LED lighting and the sun. A blue light blocking coating reduces the amount of high-energy blue light that reaches your eyes during prolonged screen use.

What is blue light?

Blue light is a high-energy, short-wavelength light on the visible spectrum. It is emitted naturally by the sun and artificially by LED screens, monitors, phones and tablets. Extended exposure — particularly in the evening — is associated with eye strain and disruption to the body's natural sleep cycle.

How does the filter work?

The blue light blocking coating is applied to the lens surface during glazing. It selectively absorbs and reflects a portion of blue-violet light in the 400–455nm range — the wavelengths most associated with eye strain and sleep disruption — while allowing the rest of the visible spectrum through clearly.

Does it affect the appearance of the lens?

Blue light blocking lenses may have a very slight yellow tint and a faint blue reflective sheen on the lens surface — particularly visible under certain lighting. The tint is subtle and does not noticeably affect colour perception for most wearers during everyday use.
Key benefits

Why choose blue light blocking lenses?

Reduced eye strain
Filtering high-energy blue light reduces the visual fatigue that builds up during long periods of screen use.
Better sleep quality
Blue light suppresses melatonin production. Filtering it in the evening may help your body maintain a more natural sleep-wake cycle.
Fewer headaches
Some wearers report fewer screen-related headaches after switching to blue light blocking lenses, particularly during extended work sessions.
Long-term eye protection
While research is ongoing, filtering high-energy blue light is considered a sensible precaution against cumulative digital screen exposure.
Who is it for

Blue light blocking lenses are ideal for

Office and desk workers

Anyone spending 6+ hours a day in front of a screen will notice the difference. A popular choice for remote workers and office-based professionals.

Gamers

Extended gaming sessions involve intense screen focus. blue light blocking lenses help reduce the fatigue that builds up during long play sessions.

Heavy phone and tablet users

Smartphones emit high levels of blue light at close range. Particularly useful for people who use their phone extensively in the evening.

Students

Long study sessions combining laptops, tablets and phones make students one of the most exposed groups to blue light. A practical choice for academic life.

People with disrupted sleep

If screen use before bed is affecting your sleep, blue light blocking lenses used in the evening may help your body's melatonin production recover more naturally.

Non-prescription wearers

Blue light blocking is available on non-prescription lenses — you don't need a prescription to benefit from the protection.
