Understanding 1.67

What you need to know

What is a 1.67 index lens?

The index number refers to how efficiently a lens bends light. At 1.67, the same prescription is achieved in a significantly thinner and lighter material — a step up from both 1.50 and 1.60 that is clearly visible at the lens edge.

Who is it for?

1.67 is the recommended choice for prescriptions between ±4.00 and ±6.00. If you have been told you have a strong prescription, or if your current lenses look noticeably thick, 1.67 will make a substantial difference.

What prescription does it suit?

Best suited to SPH and CYL values between ±4.00 and ±6.00. Below ±4.00 the 1.60 is sufficient. Above ±6.00, the 1.74 will give the best possible result.

Thickness comparison

How does 1.67 compare?

At 1.67, the reduction in lens thickness compared to 1.50 or 1.60 is dramatic — particularly noticeable for prescriptions above ±4.00.
